Ruddy Shelduck

I have always been a lover of nature and, as a child grew up in Durbanville, which then was a little town. As a child, I had as pets, rabbits, chickens, racing pigeons (which turned out to be Maanduiwe), lambs, etc. My father was involved in dairy farming, and my greatest joy was to cycle (14 kilometers one way) to the farm and spend time with the animals.
I have also been to the Okavango Swamps on 6 different occasions, not only to view the big game but the bird life in particular at Xaxaba Camp. I wanted to go farming when I left school, but my father had other ideas for me.
Initially, at Montagu Springs, we decided to have some waterfowl on the river, and fancy chickens strolling between the chalets. This was some 9 years ago. Because of the through put of some 3000 visitors to the park each month, guests wanted to buy our offspring. We then decided that if we were going to sell to the public, we had to build breeding camps and ensure that no cross-breeding of any sort took place. This was some 4 years ago.
Today, we have 90 breeding camps and 11 heated care-centers. Our price list, which shows our range of waterfowl, domesticated waterfowl, show poultry and fancy pigeons can be viewed at Montagu Springs Web site at www.montagusprings.co.za

Over the last 4 years, we have befriended with the major breeders in the Western Cape, and they constantly visit our resort as our guests. We encourage them to find fault and in this way, we have a vast source of "suggestions" coming our way, which we use if merited. In this way, we ensure and maintain a high quality and professional operation. Our vet comes to Montagu Springs for at least 2 days, three to four times a year, and also offers constructive criticism to our advantage. My greatest fear is that one day I will die without knowing everything about our Feathered Friends!!!!
All feathered friend customers, who spend more than R10,000 with us, are presented with a photo album (all photographs taken on site by a professional photographer over many visits, which you can view on our website). The number on the photograph corresponds with the number on our price list, which specifies the type and price. This enables album holders to order additional items from their albums. To date, we have supplied 25 albums, even if it has meant using a courier service to customers out of our area, as well as by ship to the Administrator of the Island of Tristan Da Cunha.
Our corporate video is updated annually, and given to all Feathered Friend buyers.
We firmly believe that, if you are going to do something, do it properly, professionally and quickly, or don't do it at all.
