Kobus Snyman
of Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Kobus is an animal and bird lover. Read the short bio about him on this page

Kobus started breeding waterfowl in Augustus 2000. At first it seems and was impossible to make contact with other breeders.  He obtained his first ducks after driving some 1000 kilometers, only to learn a few weeks later that there are many breeders in a radius no more than 30 kilometers from him.

This was one of the reasons why he decided to start with the S. A. Waterfowl Bulletin.  The first issue was published in January 2001 and mailed to some 30 people of which he gathered the names from bits and pieces.  Since then, more than 500 has joined as subscribers.

The Bulletin is a source of information for new breeders and a helpful contact between established breeders as the names and contact details of all the subscribers are published in every issue. Subscribers can also advertise their surplus stock free of charge in this bi-monthly Bulletin.

Since the first issue, and as the word spread, breeders in South Africa became aware of how many people breeds waterfowl in the nine provinces of South Africa. More and more fanciers started to exchange stock birds for new blood to breed from unrelated birds, and surplus stock is something of the past. Adverts about the Bulletin in newspapers also attract  many new fanciers to the hobby. Yes, all the problems of getting contact with existing breeders and how to get information about the pros and cons about waterfowl is something of the past.

The creation of this web site is the cherry on the cake. Kobus truly believes that only a small part of the public are aware of the beauty of this hobby. Hopefully this will also help to get more and more people interested in this profitable and relaxing  hobby.
